As all of Raider Nation knows, the Oakland Raiders already needed help on the interior of the defensive line even before they lost defensive tackles Stacy McGee and Dan Williams.
Luckily, the Kansas City Chiefs just released a solid player in defensive tackle Jaye Howard.
The Raiders ranked no. 23 against the run giving up 117.6 yards per game in 2016. Howard is a player who would immediately help the defense, for he was rated as one of the best run defenders in 2016, per Pro Football Focus.
Howard isn’t going to be a Pro Bowl player, but he would be a solid addition wherever he lands. He’s the type of player who would give depth and tangible valuable on early downs for Oakland, and his Pro Football Focus grades over the past four seasons reflect his strong contributions: 72.1, 74.2, 78.5 and 63.2.
His grades were on an upward trend until last season; where Howard was hampered by a hip flexor which forced him to miss eight games.
If healthy, signing Howard would be a win-win, as the Raiders would be stealing from a divisional rival while also adding depth to the weakest unit on the team.
