Surprisingly enough, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was available for the Los Angeles Chargers to select at No. 7 overall in Touchdown Wire’s re-draft of the entire NFL, where each team started from scratch.
Here is what our own Will Reeve Jr. had to say on why he took Carr.
“Fresh off of a MVP-caliber season, the Chargers land a young, talented franchise quarterback who is quickly becoming synonymous with winning. For a franchise who is still seeking their first Super Bowl victory and fighting for a fan base in a difficult market, Carr is a steal here at No. 7.”
Carr was the third quarterback taken by the experts, with only Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady going before him.
Everyone knows one must start a team with a franchise quarterback, or said franchise is doomed. In this case, the Chargers get a young, ascending, winning franchise quarterback while others hitched their wagon to aging players at the position in Brady and Rodgers.
For those interested, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers wasn’t taken in the first round of the re-draft, seeing Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo go before him.
