Oakland Raiders safety Reggie Nelson sat down with Raiders senior insider Eddie Paskal to discuss Oakland’s upcoming season and the aging process for the 34-year-old safety.

Nelson touched on the reality of being in his eleventh season in the NFL, stating “it’s been awhile” since he entered the league and that his role has changed from learning from the old guys to teaching the young guys.

In 2017, it will be those same young guys who will be the ones who will be pushing Nelson to compete even harder to keep his job, as the 11-year veteran noted that each year his “job is already in jeopardy,” and he realizes “it’s a young man’s game,” per Paskal.

Despite coming off of a Pro Bowl season, this year will be especially tough for Nelson as he not only will be fending off Raiders second-year safety Karl Joseph but also the freakishly athletic rookie safety Obi Melifonwu.
