Today is the fifth day of the Raiders Wire’s countdown to the Oakland Raiders’ training camp which begins on July 24. Until that day, we will count down the best Raider to wear each jersey number from No. 26 to No. 1 and will now look at No. 22.
Currently, Raiders running back Taiwan Jones is wearing the number and has been with the team since 2011, but he is nowhere near the level of former Raiders cornerback Mike Haynes, obviously.
Haynes played in 87 games for the Silver and Black and intercepted 18 passes after he was traded to the team from the New England Patriots in 1983.
He teamed up with Raiders cornerback Lester Hayes creating what is known as one of the greatest cornerback tandems in NFL history.
Most importantly, Haynes was an integral part of the Los Angeles Raiders’ Super Bowl win in 1984 over the Washington Redskins cementing his legacy as a Hall of Famer.
Overall, Haynes is another legendary cornerback that has donned the Silver and Black and is easily the best No. 22 in the great franchise’s history.
