Today is the fourth day of the Chargers Wire’s countdown to the Los Angeles Chargers’ training camp which begins on July 29. Until that day, we will count down the best Charger to wear each jersey number from No. 30 to No. 1 and will now look at No. 27.
Now, the number is worn by Chargers running back Kenneth Farrow who ended last season on the injured reserved.
However, the best player to wear the No. 27 is Chargers wide receiver Gary Garrison. He played 131 games for the Bolts hauling in 404 receptions for 7,538 yards and 58 touchdowns.
Garrison was a four-time pro bowler during his career, but didn’t get all the credit he deserved as the team struggled to win. From 1966-1976, they had seven losing seasons and only had one season where they won at least nine games.
In a run heavy era, Garrison’s career 56.3 receiving yards per game is very impressive. Unfortunately, the team was never good and didn’t make the playoffs once during Garrison’s tenure.
Nonetheless, we are able to give Garrison the respect he deserves and label him as the greatest Charger to wear the No. 27.
